Our mission is simple yet profound. We aim to guide you through the complexities of the mind and body, while helping you build effective coping strategies. By understanding and managing future dysregulations, you can lead a life where you feel empowered and in control.
I try to place myself in your shoes to understand how you may be feeling.
When we are non-judgmental, we leave room for curiosity, which leads to change and healing.
With the use of empathy, support and acceptance to you regardless of what you say or what you do.
I am open and real during our interactions and try to match the energy and emotion you are showing.
I am able to be myself, professional but not overly clinical and what I say and do match. I will challenge you during appropriate times and with permission.
I present a caring and supportive personality that does not shift so you can gain a sense of my genuine nature.
My engagement in the mental health field began about 20 years ago when I started my undergrad at Simon Fraser University completing a double major in Psychology and Criminology with a focus on child development, psychopathologies and treatments, trauma, research and mental health and the law. While attending university, I worked as a behavioural interventionist in family homes working with children with Autism. It was a beautiful experience watching these young children overcome their challenges, grow, laugh, and be a kid!
After completing my undergrad, I wanted to learn everything I could about any mental health diagnosis and how an individual’s daily life is impacted due to the diagnosis. I obtained employment working within group homes with at-risk youth. This experience pushed my drive into working with youth planting seeds, sharing wisdom and watching them maneuver the symptoms within their daily life.
After gaining this perspective of being with someone daily and helping them manage their mental health, I moved toward the idea of counselling. So, I began my counselling journey and obtained my registered professional counsellor diploma and felt comfortable and empowered within this field so I took the second step for further education. I applied and succeeded at Yorkville University and obtained my master’s degree in counselling psychology.
I strive to continue to educate myself on current research and take courses to build my knowledge of information regarding mental health diagnoses and how and where it is shifting. Additionally, obtaining certifications in different modalities to help treat my clients.
In my spare time, I love to take time to bake, my winters are spent on the mountain on my snowboard, reading, writing and enjoying a variety of outdoor activities. I also really enjoy relaxation and cuddles with my two cats!My approach is to follow your lead and explore what you feel is the best modality or coping skills that work best for you! You get to be the captain of your ship as this may be the first time you get to put yourself first and explore who you are. I am merely the compass that helps guide you!
Through collaborative engagement during your counselling experience, the aim is to process the distress happening inside the mind and body and build effective coping strategies to manage future dysregulation. So, you feel empowered and in control of your life allowing your authentic self to come through!
